Some of the most expensive words ever uttered are “I already know that”. These are words that many of us say out loud or portray through our actions. But they cost us and the cost could be our lives and/or our livelihood. “My people perish for lack of knowledge” ~ Hosea 4:6
When you look around you, if you look carefully enough, you will see that you are surrounded by people with knowledge and skills that you do not have. There may be challenges and issues in your life that you are struggling to overcome, while someone in your circle has the answer, or has the resources to gain the answer. However, because of pride, which can present itself as not wanting others to know you need help OR not allowing yourself to be vulnerable enough to ask for help, you continue to struggle.
Perhaps you are struggling in an area that you feel like you should know or that you have received information in the past, therefore, you approach your challenges with the mindset that you “already know it”. But stop and ask yourself, “If you already knew it, would you be still struggling”? Where would you be if you just stopped and ask for help? If you stopped and asked for a refresher? or even just asked someone to observe and provide their perspective? What would you lose? What could you gain?
God has placed each of us in this world with different skills and perspectives and abilities. He did not create each of us with the capacity or the obligation to know-it-all, but he did place us each in one another’s lives so that you could have access to it all. If only you ask. Who has the answer that you need today? Whose answer do you have today?
Pearls In Practice
Are you a ‘lone ranger’, struggling to move forward, to gain understanding, to obtain resources? Reflect on why you are acting alone. Is it because you are resisting to ask for and embrace help? Is it because you are too intimated to approach the people that have the answer you need. How do you feel when you are able to offer help or guidance to someone else? When you resist the help of others, you are robbing them of this experience. How can you change that?
Prayer Starter
Lord, I thank you for placing me within the Body of Christ where I can connect and collaborate with others. I understand that you created me to be relational to to give. However, if you created each of us in this way, that means that I must also be able to receive. I am leaning on you for the courage that I need to connect and share with others so that our collective work can have a greater impact.
emPower Your Pursuit
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. ~ Romans 12:4-5
